Introduction

D33 is a design agency that makes creative digital solutions for businesses that are looking to upgrade their digital presence.
As creative director, I worked on D33's website and branding. The video below is a snippet of the final website design and build.

Project objective

The objective of this project was to create a unique brand identity that is expressive, memorable and confident. These three characteristics encapsulates what D33 believes in and the work they produce as an agency.Aa strong and unique branding and identity was important for the team at D33 to defer from looking like an agency brand that was created based on an agency template.

Role & Responsibilities

My role at D33 is lead creative director and designer. My work for D33 started with designing D33's brand identity such as its logo, colour scheme, typography, and supporting graphics.

D33's branding graduated into mockups of the agency's website. Once we were happy with D33's website design, I proceeded to develop D33's entire website on Webflow. During development, the static design was further worked on to impletement unique animations and interactions.

Challenges

The main challenge for D33's work was achieving a balance between creativity and simplicity in the Agency's website. The team at D33 wanted to be perceived as confident creative thinkers with the popular philosophy of believing "less is more". Any unnecessary text or UI element was suggested to be taken out with a cautious outlook that taking too much out would make the website look too simple and thus less unique.

Keeping their website and branding lean and clean while also adding elements of creativity was a difficult challenge in this project. The solution to this challenge came in the form of carefully thought out branding decisions alongside unique UI interactions and animations on the website to achieve the desired balance between creativity and simplicity.

UI Elements

The curvature radius used in the logo was replicated throughout other elements in the website as shown below. These elements include header titles, buttons and containers to create a cohesive look throughout the website's content.

Custom Animations

Custom animations added more complexity to the minimal content by allowing viewers to interact with the content in a unique way.

The animations were aimed to encourage the user to continue exploring the contents of the website.

In a world of short attention span on the web, the engagement between website elements become key for keeping users on the website and preventing a quick bounce off.

Branding Solution

Colours

To achieve the project objective, I focused on creating simple and memorable elements for D33's website and brand look. Starting with the colour, I chose the following hues to recognizable gradient that contrasts well with a black background.

Logo

The logo design is simple and bold, with custom lettering derived from the font "poppins" for a smooth and confident emblem that acts as both the brand's name and symbol.

Key Takeaways

Working on D33's website and branding was a fun challenge. The key thing I learnt from doing this project is to always remember a project's goals and intentions. By making the objectives clear from the start, I was able to prevent adding anything unnecessary to D33's designs. Throughout my research, I found many examples of website design that are cluttered with visually pleasing graphics and features that serve no purpose other than looking nice. For this project, I made sure any added element to the design served as a storytelling tool to enhance the delivery of information to the users, while also contributing to a unique design and experience.
